Summary of Spring 2015 Final Meeting

Dear parents and spring 2015 Candidates,

It was great to pray with so many of you on Saturday morning. I know the rainy weather helped with the attendance. In addition to the prayers for your teen, I hope you were able to receive some additional graces of nourishment, encouragement and community.

Here is a quick recap of the meeting for those that missed it or are no longer able to find the handouts from the morning. 😉

We took the opportunity to verify spelling of the Candidate’s baptismal name, confirmation name and sponsor name. If the candidates sponsor is not able to attend the Confirmation liturgy we need to know who will be standing in for them as a proxy. If you missed the meeting we will be sending you a personal email to verify this information later this week.

In addition, I stressed the several items from the Frequently Asked Questions handout.

  • Sacrament of Reconciliation:  It is important that we all enter into new sacraments in a state of grace.  The Candidate is encouraged to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation a few weeks prior to April 18.
    • Reconciliation is typically offered at St. Peter Chanel
      • Monday:  6-7p.m.
      • Wednesday: 7:15-8a.m. and 6-7p.m.
      • Saturday: 9-10a.m. and 2:30-3:30p.m.
  •  Material Review Sheet:  Review, review, review!! Know the life of the saint, feast day & why they are a Saint and why they chose this Saint. Be sure to know the Holy Days of Obligation with date.
  • Sponsor Relationship:  Living near or far, it is important to nurture this very special relationship.  The Candidate/Sponsor might a Mass and celebrate Reconciliation together, attend Adoration, enjoy an activity, go to lunch, etc.  What is important is that time is provided to strengthen this relationship.  If the Sponsor lives out of town, phone calls, online communication or text messages will help them to feel close and make the celebration of the sacrament even more meaningful.
  • An Enriched Heart:  This is a very important, yet busy time in a young person’s life.  Occasional quiet time to reflect through readings, music, adoration and prayer will enrich their faith and heart for this next step in their faith journey.
  • What should be worn by the Candidate?
    • Ladies: Sunday best, light colors look best under the white Confirmation Gown. No strapless or spaghetti straps without a shrug/jacket. No flip flops.
    • Gentlemen: Dress pants, shirt with a collar, a tie looks very nice with the White Confirmation Gown. No jackets under the gown.
    • No tennis shoes or flip-flops.
  • Family seating for the Confirmation Liturgies is also mentioned in the Frequently Asked Questions link above.

We also looked at the Spring 2015 Calendar of Events.

  • The Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday) is a beautiful opportunity for your teen and your hole to continue to grow in the Spirit in their preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Rehearsal, Thursday,  April 16 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. or Friday, April 17 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Attend the rehearsal time that best suits your schedule. Participation in one rehearsal is required so that Candidate and sponsor know what to expect on Saturday. If the sponsor is not able to attend a parent should attend in their place and fill the Sponsor in. The Confirmation gowns will be distributed at the close of the rehearsal.
  • The Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation Masses, Sat., April 18, 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Candidates and Sponsors arrive one hour prior to the start of Mass time and each Mass will be approx. 2 hours in length.

Please know that the Confirmation team and I are praying for you all. I have created prayer cards for the candidates. We will be placing in the chapel prayer cards for each Candidate and invite the guardians to pray for the candidates by name and sign the back of the card.

I will continue  post videos for spiritual reflection and encouragement over the next couple of weeks of preparation. Check back weekly for more.

I hope you have a wonderful week.
